JD Jorgenson, is a wood fire potter living in St. Joseph, Minnesota with his wife Sara, son Micah and daughter Ofelia. He is a functional potter using local clay. He draws inspiration from nature and his surroundings, incorporating them into the work. His specific interests lie in the raw clay, how its surface changes do to atmosphere, flame and ash to create a new form. He also believes that the line between functional work and art objects should be blurred. He strives to approach that line as often as possible by creating pieces, which through their everyday use, are also experienced as a ceramic art object. The pieces employ subtle brushwork, surface color and occasional slip glazing on simple forms. The relationship between the clays is important to him, sometimes complimenting, other times masking or overwhelming one another.
